While there are several differences between our 4 StreetStrider models, the biggest difference between the 3i, 7i, and 8s models are the range of gears and the frames.

Gears. On our 3i, you will be able to cruise at 15-20 mph in gear 3 and climb moderate hills in gear 1. On our 7i, you will be able to achieve a much wider range of workout intensities in gears 6 and 7 and climb steep hills in gears 1 and 2. With the 8s you can cruise at 15-20 mph in gears 6 – 8 and climb steep hills in gears 1 and 2. With the 8s, each gear shift changes the ratio by about 17%, so with 8 gears, you can find the perfect resistance level for your stride.

Frames. The 3i and 7i frames are built with high tensile steel, supporting riders up to 300 lbs. The 8s is built with our 4th generation aluminum alloy frame that weighs only 20 lbs and supports riders up to 300 lbs. All models now feature our new quick-release crank arm for easy transportation and storage, and the 8s model features a new user-adjustable caster angle, providing the option for more upright stability for beginners or more leaning performance for experienced riders.

Performance

The intuitive lean-to-steer system works with your body’s natural movements to provide complete control when turning. The lean-to-steer system also engages your core muscles, something that a stationary indoor elliptical cannot do. The feeling is described as “skiing down the street” and “running on air”.

Yes. The StreetStrider’s front wheel base is the same width as the handle bars on the bicycle, which means it will fit in a standard bike lane. Also, the StreetStrider is human powered just like a bicycle or trike, so feel free to stride anywhere!

Yes you can! Hill climbing ability depends on gear choice and rider conditioning. Also, the foot platforms on all StreetStriders are designed with a rear tilt that lets you push backward on the foot platforms while you lean forward to climb hills, giving you more hill climbing power.

The 3i has 3 gears and the 7i has 7 gears.  The ratios of gears 1, 2 and 3 of the 3i are the same as the ratios of 3, 5, and 7 of the 7i.  With the 3i, moderate hils are climbed.  Gears 1 and 2 of the 7 speed are for climbing even steeper hills.

Yes, the hubs of all StreetStriders allow you to coast just like you would on a bicycle. Coasting downhill on a StreetStrider is like skiing downhill!

StreetStriding speed depends on how fast the user can rotate the foot platforms, their cadence.  StreetStrider models have gear ratios that give the user very similar speeds in the highest gears.  For comparison purposes, if the user is striding at a cadence of 60 rpm, on the 3i in 3rd gear or the 7i in 7th gear, they will be traveling at about 20 mph.  Of course, as the cadence and or selected gear is changed so will the striding speed.

Because StreetStriding is low impact and uses nearly all muscles, it is an excellent cardio-vascular and aerobic exercise that burns lots of calories and can be repeated on a daily basis. Studies have shown that calorie burn rate while StreetStriding is 50% higher than bicycling and 15% higher than riding a stationary elliptical cross trainer. Actual calorie burn rate depends on two things: body weight and velocity. A 200 lb person striding about 12-14 mph will burn approximately 1000 calories per hour.

Yes! All StreetStrider models can be used inside with the Indoor Trainer, making the StreetStrider the world’s first 2-in-1 outdoor/indoor elliptical machine.  The Indoor Trainer includes the Universal Trainer Stand, Variable Resistance Roller, Front Wheel Riser Blocks.  The Indoor Trainer allows you to transform your StreetStrider into an indoor elliptical machine in just seconds. With variable resistance levels, you can find the perfect setting for an intense indoor elliptical experience any time you want, rain or shine.

By following best practices listed in our Owners Manual and common to all human-powered vehicles such as bicycles, you can be safe while riding a StreetStrider. In addition, the 3-wheel platform makes the StreetStrider stable and easy to balance. Also, because you are upright on a StreetStrider, you can easily see and be seen in traffic.

You can view our downloadable instructions and videos here.

The 3-wheel platform of the StreetStrider makes it safe, stable and easy to balance. You can remain up on the StreetStrider even when you’re not moving. The lean-to-steer mechanism becomes intuitive after a short learning curve, making the StreetStrider easy to manipulate down paths and through traffic.

Assembly / Warranty

For optimum functioning of your StreetStrider, it is important to keep the chain, pivot joints and cables well lubricated. For the chain, apply a high viscosity Teflon grease to the top of the chain over the chainring, and then rotate the crank arms to distribute the grease throughout the chain. For the rod ends, we recommend a brand called Fluid Film. Place a drop or two of lube on each of the 4 rod ends, then lean the StreetStrider from side to side to distribute the lube. There are composite bushings at each pivot joint location that do not rotate 360°, such as Joints #1 and #2, the front beam center pivot, and the king pins of the steering knuckles. These bushings can operate without lubrication, but placing a little Fluid Film or other light grease at the bushing edges will help them swivel with less resistance and probably extend their wear life. To keep the steel cables from the brake levers and twist grip shifter sliding easier and to prevent corrosion, place a few drops of common machine oil onto the steel cable so that it runs down inside the black cable housing. To gain access to the brake cable, squeeze the brake levers. To gain access to the shifter cable, place the shifter in first gear and pull the black housing down away from the shifter.
